Dikran
Kouyoumdjain was born in Damascus
Syria
on May 29, 1925
to Haig and Mary, their only child. Even at an early
age he impressed his teachers with his passion for
reading and interpreting literary works both in
Armenian and French.
At
twenty years old, he moved to Beirut
where he
published his first article in the Armenian Aztag
newspaper using his penname Dikran Vosgouny. In a
short time he became the editor in chief of the Aztag
newspaper where he worked for thirty years.
In
1950 he married Araxi Aintablian and shared a
beautiful life with her, raising their two daughters
Suzy and Houry and balancing family life with the
demands of his political endeavors and journalistic
career.
In
1976, as a result of the Lebanese civil war, Dikran
Vosgouny moved with his family to San Francisco. He
continued writing articles and editorials in several
newspapers and became the associate editor of Nor
Gyank.
In
1982 he lost his beloved wife Araxi but a few years
later he was blessed with three granddaughters who
were the pride of his life.
In
1989 he married Ishkhanouhi Karamardian, a devoted
Armenian, and together they resided in San Francisco, enjoying
their new life surrounded by family and friends.
He
embraced the internet as his news media early on and
established the “Vosgouny.com” web site. This web site became his passion and
he developed it to become a highly visited web site by
all Armenians. He manifested his passion for Armenian
life through news, editorials and his book “Bozauar
Ma\rin;r“
(Burning Cedars).
In
2003 His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All
Armenians, granted him the Saint Mesrob Mashdotz Medal
of Honor for his intellectual endeavors in Armenian
life.
He
left a legacy of the search for truth and an
unyielding belief in a greater future.
